hello! the track starts brilliantly: the ethereal pads and then the surprising moment when the beat drops in is fantastic. you established a really trippy angelic mood which i was really enjoying. unfortunately the weird guitar sample at 02:30 shattered the mood, which was bad because it's in there until the very end, and is completely at odds with everything else in the track. i think if you ditched the sample you'd have a great track.

I listened to it with and without the guitar track several times before I uploaded it. Maybe I listened to it so many times with the guitar track that it sounds to me that something's missing without it. In any case, I'm sorry that you find it at odds with the rest of the song, but it doesn't sound wrong to me yet.

Lovely vibes. Really enjoyed this track - absolutely hearing the bonobo and tycho influence, maybe a little four tet too? Only gripe is that the synth lead melody was too buried in the mix (too much compression for my taste), i would have liked it to really pop out and be the focal point of the track. In any case very happy to stumble across this one. well done!

PompYin responds:

Cheers NiCK, I still feel that mixing is one of my weaker points when it comes to production, I've had a tendency in the past just to go mad with the amount of sounds I'm using to keep things interesting inadvertently making 'swamp music' (Just a muddy mess really.)

Other than panning, eqing and compression are there any techniques you've learnt that have made a big difference to your mix downs?

Just listened to Stalagmite and it fills out really nice, really clear sounds, nothing clashing at all.

Hey! This beat has a lot of potential - the bassline's awesome and the choppy chord thing is cool. I'd love to hear this developed into a full length song. I won't give you a 5 because essentially you've just got one verse here, but it looks like it could be a 5 :)

hellooo! you need to check your levels - that lead synth is very very loud, as is the drum roll. in general your kick and bass are usually loudest, even if they're not the dominant parts of your mix, because we perceive higher frequency sounds as louder than low frequencies. another example of offputting loudness is the breakdown at 01:10, which should be much quieter to give you a breather before the beat kicks in again. hope this helps :)

hello! not a bad track here - the sound design's there and there's a sense of progression as you add new elements into the track. at the moment i think the main thing the track is lacking is harmonic progression. the track's based on the same chord throughout, whereas for maximum impact you ought to switch it up - maybe add a chord progression in the breakdown when you're introducing the synth lead, then drop back into your root chord when the chorus drops. but there are parts of the track that are working really well. sorry for the essay - hope this helps :)

JMSy responds:

yeh i was aware the whole song went along in A minor...I was basing it off another song from the 90s...and they seem to have played whole song without any chord changes but i guess your right its a bit bland...ill defo change it up..dont want to 100% copy anyway haha

really enjoyed the track - everything about it exudes cool and modern: the choice of sounds, the rhythms. i really like how when the track drops, on the last 4 beats of each phrase you leave some space in the mix, it plays against itself in an interesting way. only thing is i wish it didn't end when it did, i was hoping it was going to breakdown and then drop into something different. but anyway great work - keep it up!

YakovlevArt responds:

"cool and modern"- huh...haha, I guess that's what all these recent tunes are going on.
I'm glad you're diggin' it! I'm always experimenting and trying new things. Just doing what I think sounds cool and hoping someone out there likes it too.

I know what you mean about the ending, and that's because these aren't technically 'complete' yet...
I'll definitely be putting more time into these and re-uploading/editing these tracks.

Alright mate! This track feels like a big step forwards in every respect: the drums sound great, nice and thick and heavy, as well as having great rhythm; the lead floats over the top of the mix nicely and has pretty nice tune. The one bit that's currently not working for me is the drum roll - the rhythm's fine but it sounds a bit underwhelming, maybe some compression and overdrive to make it bigger, and maybe some extra sounds to thematically link it to the rest of the track. Another possible improvement would be adding a section based on a different chord, to give the track a greater sense of progression.
Nice work! Keep it up! :)

madhousecreations responds:

I thought that myself once I put on newgrounds. I have now started to make amends to these parts and am trying to make it sound much better. Also found the lead to be too short. So am also expanding the main lead section. I will post new version soon.

awesome sounds and melodies. sounds really big, dark and evil. if you developed it further in the techno direction this (for me) could be a really amazing track, at the moment it's a bit too stop-and start to get really into. anyway nice work!

OPFX responds:

Thanks for the kind review.

Sounds like it could be a Grimes back beat - which is a good thing. All it needs is a killer melody and you'll have a great track.

JMSy responds:

thanks work in progress ill add some killer melody cheers

Hello!
You've got lots of really interesting elements in this track - lots of nice layering in the drums and synths, it sounds like a really full track when all the elements are in play. I feel the transition from the buildup to the chorus at around 00:30 could've had much more impact though - I think maybe it needed a bigger change in the rhythm, something to make it feel more intense than the buildup rather than less so. I think the track could also be a bit longer, maybe if it had an extra variation on the melody and rhythm.
Anyway on the whole it sounds great, keep it up :)

Semicedevine responds:

thanks!

your literally the first person to ever comment on my any of my songs so I just wanted to thank you for that.

btw I can't really do much with FL studio demo version... but I'll try my best next time! XD
